Indore: In a recent development to the ragging allegations at Indore's MGM Medical College, the first-year PG medico from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, who had accused four senior resident doctors of mental harassment, has now withdrawn the complaint. The student informed the college authorities that the issue had arisen due to a “mutual misunderstanding” between her and her seniors, which has since been resolved amicably.Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a ragging case was surfaced at Indore's MGM Medical College, where a first-year postgraduate student in the obstetrics department sent an email to the UGC's National Anti-Ragging Cell, accusing her seniors of mental harassment and intimidation. However, as per a recent report by Bhaskar, the student has now withdrawn her ragging complaint three days after filing it.Following the complaint, the college's anti-ragging committee formed an internal investigation team. The college investigation found that the student had taken a 14-day medical leave with formal permission. During her absence, senior students allegedly asked who would take over her duty shift, leading to an argument between the two, which the complainant considered harassment.Also Read: MGM Indore PG Gynaecology medico accuses 4 senior resident doctors of harassmentAccording to the investigation, a WhatsApp message was circulated in an informal departmental group questioning the frequent leave and duty shifts taken by some junior doctors. The student felt targeted by these comments and filed a complaint, aggrieved. However, the committee also examined the WhatsApp group chats mentioned in the complaint. According to officials, no objectionable messages were found suggesting ragging or mental harassment.With this, the team recorded statements from 24 students, including four senior students named in the complaint, the Head of Department (HoD) and faculty members on Saturday. The four senior students named in the complaint denied any ragging, telling the Anti-Ragging Committee that no coercion or intimidation took place. They stated, “We had only discussed work schedules, which she seems to have misunderstood”.Meanwhile, in her follow-up statement, the student told the committee that the matter was a "mutual misunderstanding" between her and her seniors, which they have now resolved amicably. Being at home during the questioning, she said in a telephone statement, "The matter is between us and has been sorted out”, report BhaskarAlong with this, the college’s Dean, Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, confirmed that the student and her father had both agreed to withdraw the complaint, stating it arose from a miscommunication. He said, “We have spoken to the student’s father. He said the complaint was filed in haste due to some misunderstanding, which has now been resolved internally”.Apart from this, the anti-ragging committee summoned the department head, Dr Nilesh Dalal, and all faculty members. Committee members reportedly questioned why the faculty was unaware of the alleged incident or had not received any prior complaints. Dr Dalal and the faculty stated that the department's environment is generally "positive and supportive."
