After a relatively dry end to the week, Metro Detroit is gearing up for a more active weather weekend. An isolated rain shower is possible during the day Saturday, but the main event arrives late Saturday night into early Sunday morning when rain showers will develop across the region. As the weekend progresses, colder air will start to move into the area. This is due to a low-pressure system tracking just south of Metro Detroit, which will bring a mix of rain and snow showers for most of the region on Sunday. The further north and west you travel from Metro Detroit, the colder the air will remain, meaning snow showers will be the dominant precipitation type through much of Sunday. This will mark the first real chance for accumulating snow this season. While some spots well northwest of Metro Detroit could see a few inches of snow, actual accumulation will be limited mostly to grassy and elevated surfaces. Pavement temperatures are still too warm to allow for significant snow buildup on roads and sidewalks.
