Meta is bringing some significant new features to its Quest headset lineup. The upgrades have a strong focus on improving the entertainment and creation experience. At the recent Meta Connect 2025 event, the company announced a trio of free updates that will put new power in the hands of the Meta Quest XR headset users.
Meta Quest’s new features are a big step beyond gaming
For entertainment fans, the biggest news is Horizon TV. This new hub will serve as a central home for a variety of popular streaming services. The list includes Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, ESPN, Peacock, and Disney+. It’s designed to make watching movies and TV shows on the Quest much easier and more immersive.
In a major step for quality, the new hub will support high-quality audio with Dolby Atmos. Plus, it will add support for Dolby Vision later this year. To highlight the new entertainment push, Meta mentioned some movies that will feature immersive 3D special effects. The list includes Universal Studios’ M3GAN and The Black Phone. There’s even an exclusive 3D clip from the new Avatar: Fire and Ash film, which is already available. The brand’s investment in this space is clear, with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Vision having signed a deal with Meta for 3D entertainment content.
New AI-powered creation options
For the creators out there, Meta is introducing two powerful new features. The first is Horizon Studio, a generative AI editor for the Horizon Worlds platform. This tool acts as an AI assistant, allowing you to use verbal prompts to create new virtual worlds or modify existing ones. You can ask it to generate things like new environments or AI-driven non-player characters (NPCs). This makes the creative process more accessible.
The second new feature is a groundbreaking tool called Hyperspace Capture. This one is exclusive to the Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets. Using a technology known as “Gaussian Splatting,” it allows you to use your headset’s cameras to take a digital snapshot of your room and create a detailed, static 3D replica that you can visit later. Best of all, the process takes just a few minutes. While the result is a static image where nothing moves, the quality is reportedly impressive, even outshining Apple’s spatial photos in some cases.
These new features are part of a larger strategy by Meta to expand the functionality of its Quest headsets beyond just gaming. Now the company is focusing on entertainment and creation tools.
