Menlo Park, October 26: Meta’s recent AI layoffs announcement has left many employees in the tech industry concerned. Mark Zuckerberg’s company reportedly informed staff via an internal memo that their roles would be replaced by technology. Meta’s Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, Michel Protti, stated that the company no longer required as many roles. The layoffs have affected the Risk organisation and the Superintelligence division at Meta. Meta Layoffs Implemented to Boost AI Team Recently, Meta hired numerous employees for its Superintelligence Labs division to develop the next generation of personalised artificial intelligence. The company recruited staff from other firms, including OpenAI, Google, Apple, and more. Zuckerberg’s firm hired top AI researchers and executives to help create personalised AI that could surpass human cognitive abilities, described as “Superintelligence”. Meta’s chief, Alexandr Wang, confirmed the layoffs in the MSIL (Meta Superintelligence Labs) division via an international memo on 22 October 2025. The company announced these job cuts to create a more efficient workflow. Wang explained that by reducing headcount, fewer conversations would be needed to make decisions and each employee would be more “load-bearing”, with greater scope and impact. Along with Superintelligence Labs, Meta confirmed eliminating several roles in its risk division. The reason for Meta layoffs at risk division was introduction of enhanced internal technololgy for job replacement. Michel Protti, Meta's chief compliance and privacy officer of product, said that the risk division was moving away from manual review and adopting more autonomous process. Neither the company nor the reports mentioned the number of employees affected in the risk department.
