Met Office yellow weather warning as fog could cause 'disruption' across England

A blanket of patchy fog is set to shroud parts of the country this morning, with the Met Office warning of travel chaos as drivers, commuters and even air passengers face delays and disruption.

The forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning as thick fog threatens to bring travel misery between 7:15am and 10am, with five regions in the firing line. Brits have been warned to check the status of their flights as well as road conditions, leave extra journey time ahead of travel, or change their plans entirely if necessary. The Met Office said: “Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible. There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights.” A seperate warning for rain is in place until midnight in Scotland today.

Brits impacted by the fog today have been warned: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary.

“Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey. Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company and follow their advice.”

Brits are bracing for widely cloudy weather in the north and west today, with spells of rain becoming widespread, persistent, and heavy by the afternoon. In the southeast, it will be drier with some sunshine, though will turn cloudy through the afternoon. The west is set for “increasingly windy” conditions, with gales possible.
