The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the North West of England as heavy rainfall continues to affect the region. A rain warning has been put in place for Cumbria on Tuesday as further persistent, and at times heavy, rain is expected to continue into tomorrow. It comes after a period of heavy rain on Sunday night and early Monday morning has caused many places to become very wet. Many places within the warning area could see a further 30-60 mm building up, with a few prone spots possibly seeing up to 80 mm. Bus and train services may be affected with journey times taking longer and spray and flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer as well. The weather body also warns that flooding of a few homes and businesses is probable and is advising people to check if their property could be at risk of flooding and to consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. People in the affected area should also check road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. In preparation for potential power cuts, residents should consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
