Met Office issues a weather warning that could cause travel disruption for the UK

Following a chilly start to the week after a cold spell over the weekend, the Met Office says a shift in UK weather is approaching. Areas of the UK witnessed a dusting of snow on Saturday (October 25) following cold Arctic air that delivered wintry conditions. Temperatures plummeted into the low single digits nationwide, dropping to 0C in sections of the far north on Sunday night (October 26). Whilst conditions stay "chilly" throughout the UK as the new week begins, the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning to Northern Ireland as severe winds approach the country from 1pm up until 11pm on October 30. The Met Office has issued this warning that there may be some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, as well as large waves and spray on some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities. They have also advised that there could be some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer, as well as delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges. There could be some short term loss of power and other services, they add. The Met Office posted on X, formerly Twitter , on October 26: "We've got some chilly air feeding across the UK from the north at the moment, temperatures will slowly recover to around normal during the week ahead, and it could turn very mild next weekend", reports the Manchester Evening News . A video posted on X reveals "cold Arctic air" delivering colder conditions to the UK on Sunday and into Monday, before "milder Atlantic air" moves in from the southwest on Halloween, October 31. Based on the latest Met Office temperature predictions, daytime peaks will climb back to the low-to-mid teens in numerous regions this week, hitting 15C in the southeast on Friday. Comparable peaks of 15C are also predicted for Saturday November 1, with widespread highs of 10-13C throughout the UK on Sunday. Looking past the weekend, the Met Office says conditions are anticipated to be "changeable", with "longer periods of rain" predicted across most of the UK. The Met Office's long-range forecast, which runs from Friday (31 October) to 9 November, warns: "The end of October and first part of November is likely to be changeable with low pressure patterns tending to dominate, bringing spells of unsettled weather across the UK. "This will mean showers or longer periods of rain will spread across most parts of the UK during this period. Some heavy rain is possible in all regions, but the largest totals will probably be across western areas. "Strong winds are also likely at times, with a risk of gales. Between weather systems some short lived dry and bright intervals may develop, which bring the risk of overnight fog and frost."
