It’s been over two decades since Zooey Deschanel starred in her last holiday movie, Elf. Even though it’s been 20 years, Elf is still in regular rotation around the holidays. Who can forget her duet with Will Ferrell of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”? Now, she returns to the holiday genre in Merv, opposite Charlie Cox, who plays everyone’s favorite blind superhero, Daredevil. Not to be outdone by all the holiday rom-coms out there, Merv includes plenty of actors of the four-legged kind. Here’s everything we know about Merv, including a first look at the official trailer. What is Merv about? When their beloved dog Merv (Gus) loses his spark after their split, Anna (Zooey Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox) are forced into the world’s most awkward co-parenting arrangement. Hoping to shake Merv out of his funk, Russ takes him to Florida for a much-needed getaway—only for Anna to show up unexpectedly. As Merv slowly gets his groove back, turns out fixing their dog’s broken heart may lead to a few sparks of their own. Who’s in the cast of Merv? Zooey Deschanel (Anna) For seven seasons, Deschanel played Jessica Day on New Girl opposite Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone, and Lamorne Morris. Her older sister is Bones actress, Emily Deschanel. She is best known for her roles in Elf, 500 Days of Summer, and Tin Man, a sci-fi re-imagining of The Wizard of Oz. Charlie Cox (Russ) One of Charlie Cox’s first roles was opposite Heath Ledger in Casanova. He would follow that up with one of his first romantic lead movie roles in Stardust opposite Claire Danes and Robert De Niro. These days, he is probably most recognized for his turn as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Netflix series, Daredevil and reprising the role in the Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again.
