Meghan Markle seems to have it all – a flourishing business , a husband who dotes on her, two beautiful children and an impressive Californian mansion. But her stepmum, Roslyn Markle, once explained the reason why Meghan doesn't speak to her family, insisting that "distance" was the main factor behind her stepdaughter becoming estranged from certain members. Prince Harry triggered fury amongst Meghan's relatives back in 2017, when he implied during a BBC Radio 4 interview that the royals were "the family she never had". The remarks were made following Meghan's Christmas celebrations with the Royal Family at Sandringham in Norfolk, England. In response, Meghan's brother, Thomas Markle Jr, stood up for his sister, insisting that she "had a really good family" and "got everything she ever wanted". However, Roslyn, the former spouse of Meghan's father – whom she wed in the 1960s – offered her perspective on Meghan's family dynamics during a 2017 interview with Radar Online. And for many, it wasn't the explanation they were anticipating – as Roslyn claimed it wasn't a family feud that was responsible. "It's not tension. It's distance," she clarified. "When Meghan graduated from high school, she went to Northwestern which is up in Illinois. And when she finished that, she worked in Argentina. Then she started Suits and she started her acting career. It was the scenario that everyone got busy, and the distance was always a factor." Rosyln has defended Meghan , insisting that she didn't "shut out" her family, but confessed that she "didn't talk too much" with her estranged sister, Samantha Grant. However, Samantha, who previously claimed that Meghan had a "large family" who was "always there for her", dismissed Rosyln's claims on Twitter . In a series of heated tweets, Samantha labelled Roslyn as "no relation" to Meghan and accused her of being "crazy" for commenting. She wrote: "FYI I read online said that Roslyn Markle was Meghan's stepmom LOL my dad divorced Roslyn in 74... she remarried... no relation to Meg ever and she knows nothing about our lives or Meghan! In a follow-up tweet, she added: "Roslyn only knows Meg from what she has studied about her in the media LOL." Meghan could be set to develop a 'mega-brand' with her lifestyle project As Ever, as she was spotted rubbing shoulders with PR mogul Emma Grede. The Duchess of Sussex attended a dinner hosted by Grede - who is the mastermind behind Kim Kardashian ’s Skims brand and Khloe Kardashian ’s apparel brand Good American - which celebrated women “owning their power” and helping “each other get s**t done”. Ms Grede shared several photos and videos from the banquet, writing in her Instagram caption: “Not my typical Wednesday after work” before showing behind-the-scenes footage from the evening, with Meghan's wine (2024 As Ever Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc) flowing throughout the evening.
