Meet the four individuals honoured by the German President during his visit to Ghana

The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has presented one of his country’s highest honours, the Federal Cross of Merit, to four individuals, three Ghanaians and one German resident in Ghana, for their outstanding contributions to Ghana-German relations. The awards were presented on Monday, November 3, 2025, at a ceremony held at the residence of the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshoft, during President Steinmeier’s three-day state visit to Ghana. German President to embark on three-day visit to Ghana The four individuals honoured with the Federal Cross of Merit were recognised for their exceptional contributions to strengthening ties between Ghana and Germany. Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng A renowned Ghanaian heart surgeon, former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and founder of the National Cardiothoracic Centre. He was honoured for his medical excellence, humanitarian efforts, and for fostering medical collaboration between Ghana and Germany. Dr Ralph Nyadu-Addo A scholar and leading promoter of Ghana-German academic exchange. He was recognised for his pioneering role in establishing a German Centre in Ghana, advancing the study of the German language, and facilitating educational opportunities for Ghanaian students in Germany. German President honours Professor Frimpong-Boateng Gerald Asamoah A former German national football team player of Ghanaian descent. He was honoured not for his sporting achievements, but for his humanitarian work through the Gerald Asamoah Foundation for Children with Heart Diseases, as well as his efforts in promoting social inclusion and Ghana-German friendship. Martin Wilde A German national and former representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Ghana. He was recognised for his significant contributions to technical and vocational education in Ghana, particularly through his work with the Don Bosco Technical Institute, and for his continued commitment to development cooperation.
