New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has chosen senior IAS officer Rajeev Verma as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. He will start the job on October 1, 2025, after the current Chief Secretary, Dharmendra, retires on 30th September. Rajeev Verma is a 1992-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories). He was born in 1966 and comes from Uttar Pradesh, according to media report. Education and Career He earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of Roorkee. He completed his MTech in Computer Science from IIT. He started his career in Mizoram (1994–1996) as an SDO in Land Revenue and District Administration. He served as Deputy Commissioner in Delhi from 2000 to 2002. He held senior roles in Delhi’s Urban Development, Planning, and Implementation departments. He worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence (2013–2017). In 2024, the government posted him as Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator and gave him additional charge of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB). A senior official from Delhi’s Finance Department described him as a “very nice officer” who balances rules with a practical approach. “He is a very nice officer and goes by rule as well as practical approach,” a senior official in the Finance department of Delhi was quoted by Indian Express.
