‘Saiyaara’ emerged as one of Bollywood’s most successful romantic films collecting over Rs 300 crore at the box office despite featuring relatively new actors. The film starring Ahan Pandey and Anait Padda put director Mohit Suri back in the spotlight not just for his filmmaking but also for his personal love story.
At the NDTV Youth Conclave Mohit spoke about the journey of ‘Saiyaara’ and his real-life romance with wife Udita Goswami.
How did Mohit Suri meet his wife?
Reflecting on his life Mohit says From Zahr to Saiyaara the most special moment for me was meeting my wife Udita. That was when I found real love. He candidly shared that he fell in love with Udita at first sight without knowing her personally and decided then and there that he wanted to marry her.
I saw Udita’s picture on a billboard and decided she would be my wife. I even told a friend about it. At that time I was working as an assistant director and had composed songs for my films like ‘Sun Raha Hai Na Tu’ and ‘Humsafar’ he added.
From film sets to real-life romance
Mohit and Udita first met on the set of the 2005 film ‘Zahr’ which he directed and starred Imran Hashmi alongside Udita. Their professional interaction soon blossomed into a relationship and after dating for about eight years they tied the knot in 2013. The couple welcomed their first child the same year and their second in 2015.
Winning her heart
Musing about his courtship Mohit revealed the lengths he went to impress Udita. After falling for her at first sight I worked hard to get her attention. Our connection grew stronger on the sets of ‘Zahr’ he shared. Their romance is often cited as one of Bollywood’s most inspiring real-life love stories.
Life after films
After marrying Mohit Suri Udita stepped away from acting to focus on her personal life and other professional pursuits. She has since carved out a niche for herself as a DJ living life on her own terms and away from the film industry spotlight.
The love story of Mohit Suri and Udita Goswami remains a shining example of lasting affection. Even two decades later the couple maintains the same spark and affection as when they first met. Mohit credits their enduring bond to mutual respect patience and shared values showing that real love in Bollywood can indeed stand the test of time.
