College football and NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit takes his dog, Peter, just about everywhere. The golden retriever travels with Herbstreit for ESPN College GameDay, as well as to some college football and NFL games Herbstreit calls. While most people seem to enjoy seeing Peter out and about, sports media personality Craig Carton is tired of him. Speaking on his show, Carton blasted Herbstreit for taking his dog everywhere with him and showing him off. “Someone’s gotta stop this Kirk Herbstreit. We don’t care about your stupid dog. We don’t,” Craig Carton said. “You forced the [expletive] dog on America. You’re forcing the dog on Al Michaels. You force the dog on ESPN people. … It’s great. You have a golden retriever. You love your dog. Yeah, let him stay home." Carton continued, complaining about Kirk Herbstreit playing fetch with Peter at a hotel. Herbstreit posted a video of Peter running down the hall of a hotel last month. “You fly a dog on a private jet and then complain about your travel from one game to another. And you throw a tennis ball down the hallway of a hotel waking everybody up so your dog can get some exercise,” Carton said. “We don’t care about your freakin’ dog.” Needless to say, Carton’s comments about Herbstreit did not go over well. People were quick to defend Herbstreit, Peter and the rest of his dogs. "Terrible take. Dog rocks and let him enjoy it," said one fan. Added another: "He has the dog with him for mental health reasons. You, of all people, should understand this concept. Plus, the huge majority of fans love Kirk and his dog (first Ben and now Peter). You need to see the reception they get on location." The comments have not kept Kirk Herbstreit from traveling with Peter and his other dogs. In fact, all three of his dogs -- Peter, Mitch and Beau -- traveled with him for College GameDay just days after Carton’s remarks. Just about everyone seems to be siding with the College GameDay star and wants to continue to see Peter on the road.
