McDonald's makes 'cheeky' rule change that has left fans upset

McDonald’s enthusiasts have expressed their frustration after spotting a rule alteration when placing orders.

Numerous customers at the fast-food giant now utilise the app to make purchases, access special deals, check into restaurants, and accumulate reward points.

For every penny spent at McDonald’s, app users can collect one MyMcDonald’s Rewards point.

Upon reaching a specific number of points, you can redeem these for rewards, with options ranging from complimentary snacks, mains, and beverages, or you can opt for McDonald’s to make a charitable donation on your behalf instead.

For instance, 1,500 points could secure you a medium soft drink, regular coffee, mini McFlurry, or small chips, amongst other items.

The more points you collect, the larger the items become, and until recently 4000 points could secure you a Big Mac.

Nevertheless, due to a fresh rule modification, this is no longer possible, reports the Mirror.

One frustrated McDonald’s customer posted on Reddit, writing: “They literally made double cheeseburger for 4000 points whereas Big Mac is now 5500 points and they removed Double Quarter Pounder.

“They’re literally taking the pistachio.” Fellow users on the online forum have been swift to respond, as one user commented: “This post just made me fully commit to stopping McDonald’s all together.

“Its a shame. I’ve been a customer since I was almost 3 years old.”

Another disgruntled customer chimed in: “Those cheeky b******s. The double quarter was my go to for using reward points” and a third lamented: ” I loved the double quarter pounder one.

“Sad it’s gone.” However, a Reddit user retorted: “Imagine getting something for free and still complaining.”

A spokesperson for McDonald’s responded: “We’re always listening to our customers, and we regularly review our rewards programme to ensure we continue to provide the value and variety that our customers expect from us.

“We’re really excited to have recently introduced a number of fan favourites now available for redemption, including our Cheeseburger and iconic Sausage and Egg McMuffin, providing even more moments of joy in our customers day.

“At the same time, we’ve moved some products into higher point tiers, reflecting the nature of rising food prices.”
