MC Yaa Yeboah, a Ghanaian media personality, has applauded President John Mahama for his comment on addressing one of the nation’s concerns: hate speeches.

She gave her approval during her punditry session on UTV’s United Showbiz late-night show. She noted that such an initiative would help to clamp down on the negativity in the media system.

However, she stated that the president should also extend a similar directive to other countries, as some Ghanaians overseas are fond of triggering violence and hate speech in the country. According to her, most of the troubles and issues come from those in a foreign land.

MC Yaa applauds Mahama on hate speech

YEN.com.gh understands that President John Mahama, during an encounter with the media, said media platforms, such as X, Facebook, and TikTok, are required to be monitored despite the potential they present when it comes to public journalism.

He, however, pointed out how these platforms have become places where hate fuels the words of the day, therefore inciting violence. As such, he claimed to have released a tool to identify individuals who pose as anonymous to instigate hate online.

In reaction to this, MC Yaa Yeboah said the government should use the tools to locate such cyberbullies spreading hate speech.

In her words:

“… Because those people outside the country have that ample time to instigate violence. So I want to know, is this thing limited within our borders here in Ghana or extended outside Ghana? Because, mind you, some of the hate speeches that instigate violence are mostly from those staying overseas.”

MC Yaa Yeboah also urged the government not to turn the system into a tool for silencing the opposition.

“I plead with the President to ensure the directives are applied to all persons regardless of their political party. This will help sanitise our systems from these hate speeches for peace.”
