India has produced countless talented individuals who have left an indelible mark in fields ranging from science and technology to arts literature politics and public service. One such individual is Dr. Shrikant Jichkar Indias most educated man with 20 degrees. Who was India’s most educated man? Born into a Marathi family in Nagpur on 14 September 1954 Jichkar achieved an incredible feat by earning 20 university degrees including his medical degree. He even earned the title of India’s most qualified person. He completed MBBS MD D.B.M. D.Litt.(Sanskrit) LL.M(International Law) B.Journ. M.A(Public Administration) M.A.(Sociology) M.A.(Economics) M.A.(Sanskrit) M.A(History) M.A.(Eng. Lit.) M.A.(Philosophy) M.A.(Pol.Science) and M.A.(Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology). What degrees did he earn in his lifetime? According to reports Jichkar completed first degrees in medicine – an MBBS and MD degree – from Nagpur. Notably Jichkar managed to complete all 20 university degrees that he earned between 1973 and 1990. He was recognized for his achievements in medicine law journalism business management and Sanskrit literature among many others. He was not simply a scholar but a true genius as he appeared for some 42 examinations during this period obtaining many gold medals for his outstanding academic scholarly accomplishments. Shrikant Jichkar was the youngest Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in India. After getting his MBBS and MD degrees from Nagpur Jichkar completed degrees public administration sociology economics Sanskrit history English literature philosophy political science and ancient Indian history culture and archaeology. Maitreyi Shrikant Jichkar daughter of Shrikant Jichkar once uploaded his father’s visiting card on X (previously Twitter) platform. In 1978 after clearing the UPSC examination successfully Jichkar was selected as a central civil servant in the Indian Police Service (IPS). However he resigned from the IPS cadre in 1980 and cracked the UPSC examination again after which he became an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Within a short time of his appointment Jichkar entered politics and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). He was appointed as a minister shortly thereafter and held 14 different ministerial portfolios. He also held the position of State Minister in the Maharashtra government. He served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985. During this period he served as Minister of State in the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1986 to 1992. He was a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from 1992 to 1998. Shrikant Jichkar initiated the Sàndipani School in Nagpur in 1992. Unfortunately on June 2 2004 the 49-year-old Jichkar died in a car accident near Kondhali roughly 50 km from Nagpur.
