Mayor Goodwin appreciated I want to thank Mayor Tim Goodwin for his service to the Folly Beach community. As he is not seeking reelection, he should be remembered for his 23 years of service, 15 of them as mayor. He is a true public servant who has earned respect for making tough decisions over the years while being a friend to the city's residents and business owners. Most importantly, I want to thank him for opening Folly Beach to Surfers Healing. This annual event held on the beach for autistic children and young adults is a wonderfully enriching experience — not just for the participants but also for the parents, volunteers, sponsors and surfers who all make it a day to remember. Mayor Goodwin and Folly Beach City Council make the event happen each year. Thank you, Tim, for a job well done. ELTON CARRIER Mount Pleasant Bird feeder issue I am blessed to have many avian visitors to my three birdbaths and six bird feeders — two of which are suet feeders. What baffles me, however, is why the manufacturers of these feeders and suet cakes apparently do not consult each other on size proportions. The suet cakes are somewhat smaller than the baskets, so as the birds peck them, the cakes become loose long before they would if they were reduced in size by pecking. HARRIET LITTLE Summerville Tinkey for town council Mount Pleasant Town Council member Mike Tinkey has been very effective in preserving and enhancing the quality of life in Mount Pleasant.
