Maya Rudolph and Paula Pell Reunite in ‘Loot’ Sneak Peek

Key Points Molly gifts bedazzled binoculars, but they harm birds and upset a fellow birdwatcher. Paula Pell’s guest character criticizes the binoculars: “What’s cooler than blinding a bird?” The episode reunites Maya Rudolph and Paula Pell, longtime collaborators from SNL and film. In Loot, Molly Wells (Maya Rudolph) has discovered that money can get you a lot of things. What it cannot buy you, however, is respect from a birdwatcher. This lesson comes courtesy of an exclusive sneak peek of this week’s episode of the Apple TV comedy. In it, Molly heads to the trees for an afternoon of birdwatching with Arthur (Nat Faxon) and his daughter Alex (Annaka Fourneret). And, as a gift, the third-wealthiest woman in the U.S. has splurged on sets of bedazzled binoculars for all of them. But any gratitude is interrupted when Paula Pell’s guest character brings down the hammer. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 “These are so cool,” she says. “I mean, what’s cooler than blinding a bird? What did you think was gonna happen when the sun hit those s—ty crystals? They shine right in the bird’s eyes. And the bird can’t see. So guess what happens? Tree collision! Legs up! Dead.” “I’m so sorry,” Molly apologizes. “I was just trying to be helpful.” “Don’t tell me,” Paula gruffly replies. “Tell the relatives of that bird.” After telling Molly off, Paula goes off to sit in her spot, as does everyone else. Arthur apologizes to his boss, saying she can be territorial, much like the avian creatures she’s so passionate about. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” Paula surprisingly replies. “Yeah, birders have excellent hearing.” This week’s episode of Loot marks a reunion of sorts between Maya Rudolph and Paula Pell. The two have been friends and collaborators for decades. They first met working together on Saturday Night Live. While Rudolph would go on to become one of the biggest stars of her era, Pell was behind the scenes, writing on the show for nearly 20 years. The two would reunite on-screen in the 2019 movie Wine Country. The Netflix film had them appearing alongside a number of notable women from that SNL era, including Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch and Ana Gasteyer. Additionally, in 2020, Rudolph made a guest appearance in Pell’s series Mapleworth Murders. Now, five years later, it seems Pell is returning the favor with her guest appearance on Loot.
