How many Christmas stockings is this going to beam into? (Lego) If you’re a Star Trek fan and you like Lego then your year has just been made, with an incredible new U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D set. For over 25 years, Star Wars has been one of the cornerstones of Lego’s offerings, for both kids and adults. Plenty of other science fiction properties have been turned into Lego sets too, from Dune to Avatar, but there’s never been any official Lego sets based on Star Trek… until now. Rather than doing the obvious, and starting with the original series Enterprise, the first Lego set is the U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701-D, i.e. the Enterprise from The Next Generation TV show from the late 80s and early 90s. The massive model is over 60cm long and 48cm wide, and made up of 3,600 Lego pieces. But perhaps most tempting of all for Star Trek fans, is it comes with nine minifigures of the crew, from Captain Jean-Luc Picard to Whoopi Goldberg’s Guinan. Although this is very much a set aimed at adults, there are some play features, with the saucer section able to detach, just like it did in the show. There’s also an opening shuttle bay at the back, with two tiny brick-built shuttlepods. The core appeal, though, is that the model manages to replicate such an un-Lego like shape, with the oval-shaped saucer and the elegant warp nacelles, with their red and blue colouring. You’ve also got a brick-built display stand, with printed schematics, including a display piece for all of the minifigures. Just don’t let the kids play with it (Lego) In all you’ve got Captain Picard, Commander William Riker, Lieutenant Worf, Lieutenant Commander Data, Dr Beverly Crusher, Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge, Counsellor Deanna Troi, Guinan, and even Wesley Crusher. The best thing is, they’ve all got their own accessories, like Picard with his cup of Earl Grey tea, Riker with his trombone, Data with his cat Spot, and a phaser and tricorder. It’s a big Lego set, so that means it’s not going to be cheap, with a UK price of £349.99 on the Lego website. Not only is it aimed at adults though, but it’s clearly angling to be a lot of Trekkies’ Christmas present this year, with a November 28 release date. The gang’s all here (Lego) If you are tempted to get it this year you also get a neat bonus gift with purchase set, that isn’t available to buy and is only given away free if you but the Enterprise-D between November 28 and December 1. Do that from the Lego website or an official Lego store and you get the Star Trek: Type-15 Shuttlepod for free, complete with an exclusive Ensign Ro Laren minifigure. If you can get to London on Black Friday, on November 28, you can also meet set designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer, between 10am and 12pm, at the Lego store in Leicester Square. He’ll sign a copy of the set, if you buy it, and answer fan questions. And if you can’t make that then there’s a livestream scheduled for November 6, at 5.15pm GMT, which will feature Lego designers talking about the creation of the set and offering a set signed by Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker himself) as a prize, although you have to sign up, for free, to be a Lego Insider for that. The Shuttlepod set is also highly desirable for fans (Lego) Got a story?
