A massive fire broke out at a three-story building with a well-known restaurant in Milford Monday night. The fire happened at 72 Main St. where Turtle Tavern and residential space is located, according to WCVB. The incident was a four-alarm fire and caused extensive damage. “The building won’t be habitable, the restaurant won’t be occupied, unfortunately,” Milford Fire Chief Mark Nelson told the news outlet. “I’d say right now the building is a total loss, but we are going to investigate further.” The original call was for a report of smoke from a wood stove in an apartment on Main Street, according to NBC Boston. One officer was injured, the news outlet reported. But there was no further information about his condition. The police department said there will be road closures near Stacy Middle School Tuesday due to the fire, including on Pearl Street, Spruce Street and Main Street. “Please plan extra travel time and use caution in the area. Thank you for your patience as the area is cleared,” the police department wrote on Facebook. Many on social media have begun posting about the loss of Turtle Tavern. “Thinking about our friends at Turtle Tavern after the devastating 4-alarm fire that destroyed their business. We’re so thankful that everyone is safe, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders who worked so hard to contain the blaze. Our hearts are with the Turtle Tavern team and the entire community,” Cornell’s Irish Pub wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Turtle Tavern tonight as their building burns. We understand that everyone got out safe. Thank you to all the firefighters that responded and always there for the community,” CraftRoots Brewing wrote.
