Firefighters in Miami-Dade, Florida spent the early part of Thursday morning battling a sizable blaze at a home registered to Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. According to NBC Miami, Miami-Dade firefighters were called to a single-family home in the area of Davis Road and Ponce De Leon Road just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they encountered a raging fire, with “two structures on the property fully involved” in the flames, which were “as tall as the trees.” Fire officials said 20 units, including a HAZMAT team, responded to the fire, which was eventually extinguished, but not before crews had to switch to a “defensive attack” due to partial collapse of the structure. The fire reportedly did not spread to any other residences, and thankfully, there are no reports of injuries. Spoelstra reportedly arrived at the scene as it unfolded According to the Associated Press, the longtime Heat head coach made it to his residence shortly after the team’s charter plane landed in Miami just after 5 a.m. The Heat completed a four-game Western Conference road trip on Wednesday night, losing 122-112 to the Denver Nuggets. Miami is scheduled to host the Charlotte Hornets on Friday in the group stage of the NBA Cup. Fire crews were still battling in the process of putting out the blaze when Spoelstra arrived. Property records indicate he purchased the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in 2023 for $6 million. Spoelstra, 55, shares three children, Santiago, 6, Dante, 4, and Ruby, 2, with his ex-wife Nikki. The couple finalized their divorce in November 2023 after seven years of marriage. Earlier this year, Nikki Spoelstra emphatically denied rumors that she had slept with one of ex-husband’s players, Heat wing Jaime Jaquez Jr. “It’s one thing for sports fans to come to my page when I made a big life choice to talk crazy,” she said. “It’s another thing for you to come onto my page and harass me and call me crazy names over a rumor, a f—–g story that is 100% flat-out not true.”
