McKinnon now sits at 692 kills. ▪ Also on Friday, Marblehead senior Eva Burke recorded her 1,000th career assist, a program record, after finishing with 31 in a 3-0 win over Notre Dame (Hingham). ▪ For the first time, Argosy Collegiate Charter’s girls’ volleyball team has qualified for the MIAA tournament. The Division 5 squad is 11-1 under the direction of coach Sydney Blackson, who is in her second year helming the program, which is four years old. Argosy is led by seniors Isabelly Monteiro, Vanessa Garcia, and Julianna Thales. Another day, another batch of conference champions. ▪ Lincoln-Sudbury girls’ volleyball captured the Dual County League championship with a 3-0 sweep of Waltham. ▪ Shawsheen girls’ volleyball secured its third consecutive Commonwealth Athletic Conference crown with a 3-1 win over Greater Lawrence that featured 26 kills and 17 digs from Francesca Reardon, 19 digs from Isabella DiSalvo, and 31 assists from Maura Krueger. ▪ With a 7-1 win over Bellingham, Medfield girls’ soccer (15-1, 12-0) won the Tri-Valley League Small division. Six players scored and seven notched at least 2 points. ▪ St. John’s Prep won the Catholic Conference boys’ cross-country championship, scoring 29 points to best BC High (37) and Catholic Memorial (66). BC High’s Greg McGrath was the individual champion, finishing in 14 minutes, 43.5 second, the fastest 5K time in the state this year and second-fastest ever run at the Wrentham Development Center. ▪ Dennis-Yarmouth girls’ volleyball (9-9) captured at least a share of the Cape & Island Atlantic division title with Monday’s 3-1 win over Falmouth that saw Aeva Dabreo slam 16 kills and Rafaela Prebianchi dishing 38 assists. Xaverian coach Al Fornaro was named New England Patriots Coach of the Week after leading his Hawks to a 25-22 win over top-ranked Catholic Memorial. It was Xaverian’s first win over the Knights since 2018 and snapped CM’s winning streak at 17 games. Down 22-15, the Hawks converted a fourth-and-12 attempt with a 48-yard score by Christian McIntyre. As time expired, Zander Govostes connected on the winning 23-yard field goal. Fornaro is in his ninth season leading the Hawks and has a career record of 61-30. “Great coaches don’t just build winning teams, they build character, discipline, and belief,” said Patriots Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, who presented the Xaverian program with $1,000 from the Patriots Charitable Foundation and the Kraft family. “Coach Fornaro does all of that and more. Coach Fornaro’s leadership, dedication, and passion for the game continue to inspire not just his players, but the entire community.” Middleborough announced the appointment of Alexandra Petit as its new girls’ basketball coach. Petit is a former Division 2 athlete and collegiate assistant at Ursuline College. “Alexandria’s experience as both a player and a coach at the collegiate level stood out immediately,” said Middleborough AD Ryan Sylvia in a statement. “She brings an energy and passion for the game that will inspire our student-athletes. We’re thrilled to have her lead the program into a new era.” Said Petit: “It is an incredible opportunity to help empower these young girls on and off the court. I am excited to compete with the best in the South Shore league and the best in the MIAA.” Petit takes over for Jeff Powers, who left to take over the girls’ program at Plymouth North. ▪ Bowdoin sophomore Ferris Collins, a Milton graduate, was named NESCAC football Defensive Player of the Week thanks to a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions in a 25-17 win over Wesleyan (Conn.). He also forced and recovered a fumbleand made eight tackles. ▪ Williams senior Jon Oris, an Avon Old Farms graduate from Otis, was named NESCAC football Offenive Player of the Week after rushing 25 times for 198 yards and a 92-yard touchdown in a 37-30 win over Bates. He averaged 7.9 yards per carry. ▪ Holy Cross junior Jayden Clerveaux, a Williston Northampton graduate from Everett, was named Patriot League football honorable mention after rushing for 77 yards on 12 carries, including a 43-yard third-quarter TD, in a 28-22 win at Richmond. ▪ Bates junior Victoria Adams, a Concord Academy graduate from Winchester, won the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship with a 4-over-par 148, shooting a 3-over 75 followed by a 1-over 73 at the Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod. ▪ Wheaton sophomore Gael Vera, an Oakmont graduate from Westminster, was named NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week after tallying two goals in two matches, giving him 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists) this season. He is tied with junior Owen Kane, a Pembroke graduate, for most points and goals among Lyons backline players. ▪ Bucknell sophomore Sally Hunter, a Phillips Exeter graduate from Beverly, was a Patriot League field hockey honorable mention this week after dishing three assists in two games. ▪ Keene State junior Tyler Bolaske, a Palmer graduate, was named Little East Conference Runner of the Week for the second time this season after finishing 17th in the 264-runner field at the Connecticut College Invitational, besting his personal record by almost seven seconds in 24 minutes, 25.9 seconds. The B.A.A. Boston Middle School Cross-Country Championship has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday at Franklin Park. The B.A.A. has hosted this event since 1996. Races start at approximately 10:45 a.m. with more than 400 students from 10 Boston middle schools slated to compete in individual and relay races to determine the fastest middle schoolers in the city. The top finishers in the boys’ and girls’ races will earn a spot in April’s B.A.A. Middle School 1K.
