A house party at an Ohio Airbnb became a horrific crime scene after nine people were shot, including teens. The gunfire erupted at a short-term rental home in Bath Township at 12.16am. Police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunshots. First responders discovered a combination of both adult and juvenile victims at the party. They performed life-saving measures, Chief Vito Sinopoli said in a press conference. Of the nine injured, three were taken to Summa Health, where one person was admitted, and the other two were later released. The six others were hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic, but further details on the injuries are unavailable. Investigators found that the shooting occurred on the first floor of the Airbnb, which was scattered with shell casings - however, no arrests have been made at this point. The gathering was advertised on social media, and following the shooting, the street was jammed with cars stuck in traffic as they tried to flee the scene, said Sinopoli. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Bath Township Detective Bureau are working alongside one another to find who was responsible for the 'senseless act of violence,' added the chief. Sinopoli noted that his department is exhausting all resources and urges anyone with information or witnesses to come forward, even if it is only the smallest piece of information. 'This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community, and we're committed to providing all available resources to this investigation,' Sinopoli said. The police are in contact with the homeowner and confirmed that Bath Township prohibits Airbnb rentals. 'We are heartbroken by this senseless act of gun violence, and our thoughts are with the injured victims and all those affected by it,' an Airbnb spokesperson said in a statement Sunday afternoon, cited by 3News. The spokesperson continued about the measures they took on their end and their cooperation with the authorities: 'Unauthorized and disruptive gatherings are strictly prohibited on Airbnb, and our Safety team acted immediately to remove the account of the individual who deliberately broke those rules by booking this stay.' 'Our law enforcement response team is in contact with the chief of Bath Township Police Department to assist their ongoing investigation to ensure those responsible for this terrible incident are brought to justice.' The rental property was purchased in 2022 for $1.2million by Michael Jones, who was later sentenced to six and a half years in prison for defrauding small businesses, according to 3News. However, before he was incarcerated, Jones transferred ownership to his wife, Shuana Garnder. Akron Mayor Shammas Malik posted a statement addressing the catastrophe: 'Last night, our community experienced a terrible shooting in Bath Township at a large party reportedly attended by many youths. Nine people – both juveniles and adults – were reportedly injured, and we are waiting to hear more about the status of those victims. 'Our Akron Police Department and our Akron Fire Department were part of a large mutual response from many departments – and I want to thank our safety forces for their hard work throughout the night.' 'The City of Akron will do anything needed to assist Bath officials in the investigation that is already underway. Those who perpetrate violence anywhere in our community must be held accountable for their actions. This kind of deadly behavior cannot be normalized.' 'In addition, the reports of so many young people at a rented house party are very concerning. As we learn more about the situation that occurred last night, it appears to be part of a broader issue - helping make sure youth across our community are safe.' 'There is a significant role for parents in this regard, and there is a significant role for government. The City of Akron is committed to continuing our work alongside parents, youth-serving non-profits and our broader community. Today, my heart is with the victims of this shooting and their families, those who witnessed this incident, and those safety forces who responded to it.' Bath Township is approximately 14 miles from Ohio.
