A gang of five masked men dressed in Military-style outfits, robbed the SBI bank branch at Chadchan town.

While the exact amount stolen is yet to be confirmed, according to The Hindustan Times report, cash and gold worth ₹21 crore was looted.

According to PTI report, culprits entered the bank after business hours, on the pretext of opening a current bank account, and were armed with knives and country-made pistols.

“Further investigation is underway and all efforts are being taken to nab the suspects,” news agency PTI quoted Vijaypura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi as saying.

Police rushed to the spot and have begun investigations.

Commenting on the recent SBI bank robbery in Vijayapura, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking to media in Kalaburagi, said the car used in the crime has been traced. Instructions have been given to the district SP to nab the culprits and alert all concerned officials. “It is the responsibility of each bank to appoint its own security staff. Police will provide support, but I have instructed that preventive measures be taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents,” he added.
