While developer Skydance New Media has been quiet about its upcoming title Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra since it announced its delay to early 2026, a new video has popped up on the Internet that gives us a glimpse at the title’s gameplay. According to Mp1st, the gameplay video comes courtesy of a developer who has worked on the title, and is paired with screenshots that were reportedly created between 2022 and 2023.
The video is of particular note, since it gives us a solid look at what we can expect when it comes to gameplay in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. The video features Black Panther taking on a horde of soldiers in a lounge. There is an emphasis on melee combat, and the video also showcases quite a bit of environmental interaction and destruction as Black Panther makes is way through enemy soldiers.
We also get a general idea of what kind of melee combat gameplay we can expect from the title. Judging from the video, it looks like players will get a wide array of different attacks, as well as defensive options like dodging.
It is worth keeping in mind, however, that the video features gameplay from an early build of the game. Due to this, things are quite rough, both from a visual fidelity standpoint as well as some of the jankiness in things like animation. The release version of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will likely have ironed all of these features out, and will probably end up being a lot more polished.
The images, also from earlier builds of the game, show off various angles of the same lounge featured in the video, with some of the screenshots also showing off what destruction in the level would look like. There are also other images showing off what looks like an underground railroad level which might have a higher emphasis on stealth-based gameplay, as well as a larger-looking level with Black Panther hanging out on the balcony of a building overlooking the rest of the city.
Skydance had announced that it was pushing Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra back to 2026 in May. The announcement came despite one of the voice actors—Khary Payton who plays Black Panther in the game—speculated about its potential launch happening around Christmas 2025. “We’re still working,” he said at the time. “We’re planning on 2025…We’re thinking like a Christmas situation. But I’m so excited.”
Project lead Amy Hennig, known for her work on action adventure classics like Legacy of Kain and Uncharted, spoke about wanting to do something new with Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. In an interview from back in December 2024, Hennig mentioned wanting to do something groundbreaking with cinematic storytelling in the game.
“As a new studio trying to do some groundbreaking stuff with cinematically presented games, the way we invite the most people in is by bringing them something they already know and love, but in a new form,” she said.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
