Maruti Victoris Biogas Revealed At Japan Mobility Show 2025 — India Launch Likely?

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a biogas-powered variant of its Victoris SUV at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, signalling a push toward alternative fuel mobility. This “CBG” (compressed biogas) version expands the Victoris powertrain lineup beyond petrol, mild-hybrid, and CNG. The SUV is essentially a Victoris adapted for compressed biogas fuel, showcasing technical innovations such as an under-floor dual-cylinder gas tank while retaining boot capacity and packaging. Whether this version will launch in India is yet to be officially confirmed, but its exhibition underlines Maruti Suzuki’s renewable-fuel strategy. The under-floor dual-cylinder tank layout remains, which preserves boot space compared to traditional trunk-mounted gas cylinders. The wheelbase and body dimensions remain unchanged at approximately 4,360 mm length, 1,795 mm width and 1,655 mm height. This setup forms a major part of the vehicle’s packaging strategy. Why Biogas MattersBiogas represents a renewable fuel option in Maruti’s portfolio. The chemical composition of compressed biogas (CBG) is nearly identical to CNG, but its source is agricultural residue, sewage or cattle dung—granting it a closed-carbon-cycle potential. The Victoris CBG preview emphasises alternative-fuel versatility and aligns with broader transitions in mobility energy sources. What It Means For India LaunchThe CBG variant is currently a showcase, so its commercial launch in India remains speculative. At the Japan Mobility Show, the brand has displayed the Biogas Victoris alongside other renewable mobility concepts, but the mass-market rollout depends on infrastructure maturity and feedstock availability. The India-spec Victoris currently sells with petrol, CNG and strong-hybrid powertrains. First: biogas-fuelled passenger cars remain technically feasible but logistically challenging—feedstock logistics and certification are hurdles. Second: pricing, service and resale dynamics of a biogas variant will differ from traditional powertrains. Checking availability of fuel across operating region will remain key. Maruti’s showcase highlights the concept today, but market-ready product timelines are yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned to Times Now Auto for more industry-related updates.
