Marks and Spencer has announced the closure of 11 cafes across the country as part of a significant restructuring of its over 300 food shops. The closures, affecting less than 4% of locations, will include branches in Anlaby, Hull, and Martlesham Heath, Ipswich. A spokesperson said: "As we look to modernise our food business and offer the best of MandS Food to more people, more often, we're investing in our store estate to give our customers the widest possible product range. "In some of our small Food stores, where customers want a greater range of MandS Food, our transformation also involves repurposing cafe space across 11 small food stores, out of over 300 MandS cafes, coffee shops and coffee-to-go locations." This news follows the recent permanent closure of the Marks & Spencer Wolverhampton city centre branch on Dudley Street on September 27, which had been open since 1929, reports the Mirror . Despite these cafe closures, the retailer's transformation strategy includes the launch of additional food halls, with six new food stores set to open before Christmas , creating 200 jobs. The company unveiled a new market-style Foodhall on Southampton Street, in Covent Garden, on October 15, and relaunched two revamped Foodhalls in Temple Fortune and Wimbledon. This November, South London will see the opening of two new Foodhalls at Clapham Common and Fulham Broadway, according to the Express.
