Market rebound: Sensex climbs 440 pts, Nifty nears 25,200 level; Kotak Mahindra, L&T, Axis Bank lead gainers

Domestic market staged a rebound today, driven by buying in auto and banking stocks, amid hopes of India-US trade negotiations. Investors also await the US Fed Reserve’s policy outcome later this week.

Sensex climbed 436.30 pts or 0.53 per cent to 82,222.04 at 12.36 pm after hitting an intraday low of 81,779.94. Nifty 50 increased by 129.55 pts or 0.52 per cent to 25,198.75, nearing 25,200 level

Smallcap index outperformed the midcap, gaining 0.80 per cent compared to the latter’s 0.26 per cent rise. Most sectoral indices were in positive territory, with media, auto, and banking stocks leading the rally, while healthcare and FMCG dipped in the red.

Top gainers & losers intraday

Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank, Larsen & Turbo, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, JSW Steel and NPTC led the gainers of Nifty 50 pack. Shriram Finance, Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finance, Titan and Nestle declined to trade as major laggards.

A total of 2,980 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing, out of which, 1,935 advanced, 938 declined and 107 remained unchanged.

A total of 79 stocks touched their 52-week high such as Amber, Axiscades, Dalmia Bharat and Aadhar Housing Finance, whereas 16 hit their 52-week low. Meanwhile, 84 stocks, including Reliance Power and Steelcast, were locked in the upper circuit and 12 in the lower circuit.

Midcap & smallcap movers

GMR Airport, Tata Consumer, Bharti Hexacom, MRF and M&M Finance soared 2-4 per cent among the midcap index, while Max Health, Ola Electric, Vodafone Idea, BSE and MFSL declined 1-2 per cent.

Under the smallcap segment, Aegis Logistics, Godfrey Phillips, Aadhar HFC, Tejas Networks and Neuland Lab led the gainers with 4-8 per cent rally.

JBM Auto, HBL Engineering, Brigade, Titagarh Rail and Welspun Corp depreciated by 2-3 per cent.

On the BSE, shares of Redington, Aegis Logistics, Godfrey Phillips, Force Motors and Vaibhav Global zoomed 6-16 per cent. On the flip side were Indraprastha Medical, JBM Auto, Yatharth Hospital, GMDC and IIFL CAPS.
