US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican, Georgia) thinks America needs a “national divorce.”
In a lengthy X post on Monday, Greene said the killing of Charlie Kirk and the bitterly polarised aftermath has convinced her the nation “is too far gone and too far divided” when it comes to politics.
“There is nothing left to talk about with the left. They hate us,” she wrote.
“They assassinated our nice guy who actually talked to them peacefully debating ideas,” the Republican said of Kirk. “Then millions on the left celebrated and made clear they want all of us dead.”
“To be honest, I want a peaceful national divorce,” Greene wrote, adding that America is “no longer safe for any of us.”
The Georgia politician first invoked the idea of a “national divorce” in a 2023 X post.
Proposing that “red states and blue states” be separated to “shrink the federal government,” many worried Greene was suggesting something akin to Civil War-lite.
