U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has responded to a report that she is planning a 2028 run for president. News organization NOTUS reported on Wednesday that the Georgia Republican has told colleagues she wants to go for the nation’s highest office, citing four unnamed sources familiar with the matter. The outlet quoted one source saying Greene believes she is “real MAGA and that the others have strayed.” On X, Greene shared a text she sent to the reporter who wrote the article after publication. “So I just saw you posted a baseless article and did not reach out to Ty Sharpe my comms team,” Greene wrote, according to the screenshot. NOTUS reported it had sent an inquiry to Greene’s communications director ahead of publication. The text continued: “Who is your source? Laura Loomer? She claimed I was running for governor last week and announcing it in the view. Once again you publish baseless gossip. Very disappointing. Don’t text me again.” In the X post, she added: “Apparently Notus is a gossip blog, shame on the editor. ‘Sources.’ Congress needs to go back in session because DC reporters are bored and desperate. And I would like to pass bills and appropriations for my current job.” Newsweek contacted Greene’s press office via email and Loomer via social media outside of regular business hours on Thursday.
