Marjorie Taylor Greene Offers Surprising Praise For Retiring Nancy Pelosi

LOADINGERROR LOADING Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) praised House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for retiring — with a couple caveats — during a Thursday morning appearance on CNN. Asked for her reaction to Pelosi’s announcement that she would not seek reelection next year, Greene first said that she believes in term limits and wants to see a bill passed that would cap them. Pelosi is 85 years old and, by the time she leaves, will have served in Congress for 40 years. Advertisement “However, I will praise Nancy Pelosi,” Greene said. “She had an incredible career, for her party.” “I served under her speakership in my first term of Congress, and I’m very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party,” Greene added. The Georgia Republican has been sharply critical of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) during the shutdown for his refusal to call the House back in session and for failing to help draw up a Republican health care plan that could replace the Affordable Care Act, as President Donald Trump has been promising for a decade with no results. “So I wish her well in her retirement, but I would like to see people exit Washington a lot sooner rather than wait until they’re 80,” Greene said. Before she won her seat in Congress, Greene said that Pelosi was “guilty of treason” and the crime is “punishable by death.” She also liked a Facebook comment suggesting Pelosi should receive “a bullet to the head.” TheBacklashis Here! Amid what is now the longest-ever government shutdown, however, Greene has been making the rounds on cable news and even talk shows like “The View” to put pressure on her party. Advertisement “I’m really tired of the pissing contest in Washington, D.C., between the men, I really am,” Greene said on the program earlier this week. “People have been crushed by decades of failure in Washington, D.C., and so I have no problem pointing fingers at everyone,” she said. “The worst thing I can’t get over is we’re not working right now, and I put that criticism on the speaker of the House. And we should be working right now.”
