Marjorie Taylor Greene issues praise to Nancy Pelosi in stunning dig to Trump as firebrand reinvention continues

Marjorie Taylor Greene heaped lavish praise on Nancy Pelosi, years after she'd referred to the former Speaker of the House as a 'traitor to our country.' Greene continued her liberal lovefest amid rumors the firebrand congresswoman will run for president in an act of vengeance against President Trump after he failed to support her Senate campaign. 'Well, my reaction is I believe in term limits,' she initially joked when asked about the retirement of the 85-year-old Pelosi, who spent 38 year in Congress. 'However, I will praise Nancy Pelosi. She had an incredible career for her party. I served under her speakership in my first term of Congress, and I'm very impressed at her ability to get things done,' Greene admitted. The Georgia firebrand then continued her criticism of her fellow Republicans, who she has slammed as unable to deliver for voters. 'I wish we could get things done for our party, like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party. So, I wish her well in her retirement, but I would like to see people exit Washington a lot sooner rather than wait until they're 80.' It's a stark change from comments Greene made in a 2019 Facebook video that was unearthed by CNN. 'She's a traitor to our country, she's guilty of treason. And by our law representatives and senators can be kicked out and no longer serve in our government. And it's, uh, it's a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.' She also once had to apologize for her social media team, who she claimed 'liked' posts calling for Pelosi to be executed. Her appearances among the liberal media elite caused 'Squad' Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to claim Greene turned on Trump in an act of 'revenge' after he shut down her alleged Senate ambitions. 'Here's some tea for you,' Ocasio-Cortez said during a lengthy Instagram livestream shared this week. 'MTG, people are like, 'Oh my God, she's saying all these things, like, what's gotten into her lately?' 'Oh, like, she's bucking against Trump, she's bucking against the administration.' 'Marjorie Taylor Greene wanted to run for Senate in Georgia. She wanted to run for Senate earlier this year in the state of Georgia, she wanted to be the Republican nominee for Senate,' the New York Democrat added. 'So, she was gearing up for that statewide race, and Trump told her no. Trump said no, and the White House and Trump Land shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal ambitions to run for Senate, and she has been on a revenge tour ever since.' Sources also told the Wall Street Journal back in May that Trump warned Greene away from a potential Senate run, on the basis that he believed she would lose. But Greene denied AOC's theory about the sudden change in her approach to politics ever since, pointing to her social media post on May 9 which outlined why she did not run for Senate - a decision she said had nothing to do with Trump. She claimed that beating the incumbent Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff 'would be easy', while condemning him as 'a silver-spoon progressive who's never held a real job or worried about putting a roof over his family's head'. Greene claimed the reason she was not running was that 'the Senate doesn't work', and she felt that she could better deliver for the people she represents through her current role in Congress. '(The Senate) is designed to obstruct the will of the people and protect the Uniparty's grip on power,' Greene wrote in May. 'Nearly everything requires 60 votes to pass, and even when we have a majority, a pack of Republican Senators always votes 'no' on the bills that matter most.' 'Even with a few good Republicans in the Senate, nothing changes,' she added. The change of tune comes as Greene, 51, a conservative mother of three known for her outlandish attacks on her political opponents, has recently separated herself from the GOP by repeatedly criticizing party leadership. The Georgia lawmaker has been telling her congressional colleagues she is eying a bid for the White House, four sources familiar with the matter told NOTUS. One of the sources shared that MTG believes she is 'real MAGA and that the others have strayed' from Trump's true vision. However, Greene strongly denied the rumors in a social media post that included a screenshot showing her text message to a reporter who broke the story. 'I just saw you posted a baseless article and did not reach out to Ty Sharpe [and] my comms team,' she said in the message to NOTUS' Reese Gorman. 'Who is your source? Laura Loomer? She claimed I was running for governor last week and announcing it in The View. Once again you publish baseless gossip. Very disappointing. Don't text me again.' Greene has been embraced of late by even her most ardent opponents because of her recent critiques of Republicans and specifically her embrace of healthcare reform - a top priority among those on the left. On Wednesday, Greene chastised GOP leadership's failure to provide relief to 'Americans suffering from high cost of living, rising food and energy prices. In the same post, she accused leadership of 'leaving them out to dry with no plan on our skyrocketing health insurance premiums.' Once siloed to the far-right networks like One America News (OAN) and Real America's Voice, a network her boyfriend Brian Glenn works for, MTG has broken out of the conservative echo chamber and found herself in bluer waters. This week, she appeared on ABC's 'The View,' a left-leaning daytime program that frequently slams Republicans and Trump. Greene has split with her party on several issues, including mass deportations, plans to expand the number of visas given to Chinese students, and the Republican stance on the ongoing government shutdown. The 51-year-old Georgia Rep. even told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview in August that it may be time for her to walk away from the Republican Party. Her boldest split from the party line came in October, when she openly criticized the ICE raids - the execution of the policy which many say got Trump elected. 'As a conservative, and as a business owner in the construction industry, and as a realist, I can say, we have to do something about labor,' Greene told the Tim Dillon Show on October 11. 'And it needs to be a smarter plan than just rounding up every single person and deporting them just like that. 'I'm going to get pushback for that, but I'm just living in reality from here on out. If anyone's mad at me for saying the truth, then, I'm sorry.' Immigration was the central focus of Trump's campaign for the White House in 2024. He promised the 'largest domestic deportation operation' in history and to re-start construction on a border wall. Trump, 79, also pledged to end birthright citizenship and revoke the visas of Pro-Palestinian student protesters. His administration has aggressively pursued these policies through shock ICE raids which have seen more than two million people deported in less than 250 days during his first year as the 47th president. Greene has also sided with Democrats who claim that the bill currently causing a stalemate in the Senate would impact healthcare if passed. 'I'm going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children's insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district,' Greene wrote. 'No I'm not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games.' Greene also spoke out against Trump's plans to expand the number of Chinese students admitted to U.S. universities by up to 600,000 people per year. 'We're going to allow their students to come in. It's very important - 600,000 students,' he said. Greene said this undermined the administration's immigration clampdown, while also claiming that American colleges 'are being propped up by the CCP' via admissions from China. The Georgia Republican has even gone as far as to admit that her party is going to lose the lower chamber of Congress if the cost of living crisis is not addressed. She told Semafor in October that she could 'see Republicans losing the House if Americans are continuing to go paycheck to paycheck.' 'They'll definitely be going into the midterms looking through the lens of their bank account,' she added.
