Marinakis: The dialogue with Turkiye is a deliberate choice and we will continue to pursue it

The dialogue with Turkiye is a deliberate choice and we will continue to pursue it, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Friday in an interview with Mega TV.

In response to a question about the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the US and the expectations of the Greek side, Marinakis said: “Look, the dialogue with Turkiye is a conscious choice for our country and we will continue to pursue it, without it meaning that we are giving in to anything. During the days of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greece has been strengthened, has been fortified with armaments that have advanced more than ever.” For this reason, Marinakis referred to the EEZ with Egypt and Italy, the expansion of maritime borders in the Ionian Sea to 12 nautical miles, the maritime spatial planning, as well as developments with Chevron and ExxonMobil.

“At the same time, however, because we do not believe that the reinforcement is the result of a pseudo-patriotic policy, we believe in dialogue. The dialogue has given the countries a better management of migration and the elimination of violations. We have no illusions that we agree with Turkiye, no such illusion. We have many disagreements, only one difference, the delineation of the EEZ and continental shelf and no other. Therefore, the prime minister will attend based on these age-old principles,” concluded Marinakis.
