Marinakis: The existence of a stable gov't is the only path for the country

“One-party majority is not a matter of strategy. However, based on what has been happening for many years in Greece and in many other European countries, the existence of a stable government is the only path for the country,” emphasised Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis in an interview with the newspaper Real News on Sunday. Marinakis noted that the only ones competent to decide on these matters are the Greek citizens, referring to polls from 2023 which showed exactly the same picture as today. “By no means do I assume that this will repeat in 2027, but until then, I consider all this discussion futile. For us, the only thing that matters until the elections is to fully implement our commitments, continue strengthening Greece, and improve citizens’ lives,” he said. Referring to upcoming benefits, he added that in the next few weeks rent reimbursement will begin for 80% of tenants, and the permanent 250-euro allowance will be given to more than 60% of pensioners. “At the same time, from January 1, 2026, the largest tax reform of the past decades will be implemented, announced by the Prime Minister at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). Citizens will see immediate increases in income due to tax cuts, especially the middle class, families with children, and young people. Furthermore, as has happened this year, as long as this government continues a policy of increasing state revenue through reducing unemployment, growing the economy, and combating tax evasion without raising taxes, citizens will enjoy yearly tax reductions and increased income. We have a dual duty: to correct all injustices of recent years and prevent the country from returning to the policies that bankrupted it,” he added. Regarding OPEKEPE, he stated that the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee has been up to the task, and society is receiving answers to longstanding questions about the “tainted” history of agricultural subsidies. From the witness testimonies so far, it is clear that there was no government intervention to obscure the matter—despite the opposition’s claims to the contrary.
