Marcus Rashford gets two-word Hansi Flick verdict after Rio Ferdinand message

Hansi Flick has admitted that Marcus Rashford was one of three Barcelona players that suffered with tiredness during their 2-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League . Rashford, 27, continued his excellent recent form with another assist in Barcelona colours on Wednesday , setting up Ferran Torres to open the scoring at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. The England international delivered a precise pass across the box for ex-Manchester City forward Torres to prod home from close-range. However, Barcelona ended up surrendering the lead as PSG equalised before half-time with Senny Mayulu pouncing on a mistake to make it 1-1. Despite controlling most of the second period, Barca conceded late on to lose with Goncalo Ramos capitalising on a high defensive line to slide home Achraf Hakimi’s low cross. Speaking post-match, Flick claimed that Rashford was one of the players who saw the physical demands of the game take its toll. “I think you could see in the second half that some players were very tired. Marcus, Pedri, [Frenkie] De Jong,” he told Diario AS . “They gave their all on the pitch. At 1-1, you have to defend better. You have to learn and improve against teams of this quality.” Rashford started and played until the 72nd minute before he was substituted for Robert Lewandowski. His assist was his seventh direct goal contribution in his last six appearances for Barca, after scoring twice against Newcastle United last month and setting up one goal in the other five matches. Rio Ferdinand , meanwhile, reacted to Rashford’s performance against PSG and he was impressed with what he saw. “#Rashford looks reborn at @FCBarcelona [chart increasing emoji and collision emoji].” However, Tim Sherwood was not as enthralled with Rashford’s showing in the Champions League. Indeed, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa manager branded him as “bang average” when comparing him to Lamine Yamal. Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood said: “He’s (Rashford) done OK. It suits him better when they had more control and they’re getting the ball out to him. But it’s unfair for him because Lamine Yamal gets it on the right hand side, does a lot of pirouettes, the crowd is up, he has shots at goal and they drop off him. “When it goes out to the left to Marcus, he is one dimensional, we know what Marcus is and he’s very effective when he does it. He knocks it, he runs past people and when he doesn’t the crowd think, ‘why don’t you give us the same as the genius on the other side?’ “It’s harsh on him (Rashford) I know, but it’s a very difficult environment for him to play in. Marcus Rashford will develop if he wants to and get better playing in this Barcelona side. He has to get better.” Sherwood quipped: “At the moment, he looks bang average because the kid on the other side is so good.” Next up for Barca and Rashford is a trip to Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday.
