IndyCar royalty Marco Andretti came out on 29th October, 2025, and announced his retirement from motorsports. The 38-year-old took to the social media platform X and shared a post about his retirement, highlighting the key aspects of his career, and thanking the fans for their love & support.Marco Andretti is the third generation of racing driver from the Andretti family, as he followed in the footsteps of his father, Michael Andretti, and his grandfather, and motorsport legend Mario Andretti. While Mario and Michael both won at least one IndyCar title, Marco failed to accomplish the same. Nonetheless, he won a couple of races and stood on the podium 20 times.The 38-year-old made his IndyCar debut in 2006 for his father's team, Andretti Green Racing (now Andretti Global,) and finished as the runner-up at his debut Indy 500. That was the closest Marco Andretti came to the Indy 500 victory, despite taking the pole position at the 2020 Indy 500.Marco raced with Andretti Global as a full-time driver throughout his career before taking retirement from the full-time responsibilities at the end of the 2020 season. Thereon, he only participated in the Indy 500 as a one-off entry for Andretti Global.Marco Andretti's retirement decision comes during the offseason before the 2026 IndyCar season begins in four months' time. He took to the social media platform X and uploaded a tweet about his retirement, which read,“To my family, friends, teams, sponsors, and fans who have genuinely supported me for the last 30 years in motorsports, I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege to continue our family’s passion on the racetrack. I have had some really fun times behind the wheel in a lot of different types of racing cars — a lot of great memories as well, mostly at the Indy 500.”“Today, I am announcing my retirement from motor racing and the Indianapolis 500. That totals 20 starts at the Speedway, which I feel so fortunate to be able to say. That is ranked 12th all-time. I will be prioritizing most of my time on being a great father to my daughter, Miura, and tending to my other business ventures.
