Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has urged the club to sign a striker. He believes that adding an experienced striker to the squad would help the club secure more wins.Speaking to The Standard, Desailly said that the squad is lacking leadership and consistency. He believes that signing a striker who can lead the attack would solve their issue and said:“They still have to build up some leadership and consistency other than [Cole] Palmer. I still believe that they need that experienced striker to be able to bring the team to another level.”Talking about Enzo Maresca, the former defender heaped praise on the manager. He praised the Italian for using the squad well and setting up with the right tactics and said:“Tactically, Maresca has been magnificent. You can see that his squad understand his tactics, the way they put the pressure on the three midfielders of Paris Saint-Germain.”The calls for a striker come just hours after Arsenal legend Paul Merson claimed the Blues needed Liam Delap back. He said on Sky Sports after the 2-1 loss to Sunderland (via Football365):“I thought they’d struggle. They need Delap back badly, they need a focal point. Guiu played up front and I think he touched the ball nine, ten times. You can’t do that in a team that are supposed to be dominating the ball. Chelsea ran out of ideas. They had winger after winger but half of them don’t go past anyone. Joao Pedro looked lost as a number ten. They struggled and were pretty poor.”The Blues have scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season, joint-top with Tottenham and Manchester City. However, they have conceded 11 goals and are currently sitting ninth in the table.Chelsea are not using Joao Pedro in his best position, claims Micah RichardsMicah Richards was on The Rest Is Football earlier this month and claimed that Enzo Maresca was not using Joao Pedro in his best position. He claimed that the Chelsea manager should use the Brazilian behind the striker and not as the front-man and said:“They’ve signed [Liam] Delap, they need Delap back, because Pedro, and you did the analysis last week, didn’t you? He’s a number 10, isn’t he, Pedro? He’s not a number nine. And I just feel like Chelsea, to go to the next level, they just need someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net at any time. And then they will be a real threat. I love the balance of the team.”Chelsea have been dealing with injuries this season, with Liam Delap out injured, along with key players like Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill.
