Manny Pacquiao confirms Floyd Mayweather rematch talks 10 years on from first bout

Manny Pacquiao has confirmed there have been talks over a monumental rematch with legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather . Netflix are said to be leading the negotiations that would see two of the sport's biggest stars of the modern era. The pair faced off more than a decade ago and racked up more than £500million from US pay-per-view sales for the most eagerly anticipated fight of a generation. Mayweather claimed a comfortable decision victory as the fight struggled to match its expectations, and Pacquiao later blamed a shoulder injury on his subpar performance. Former eight-weight world champion Pacquiao previously shocked the boxing world by announcing plans for a rematch against Mayweather more than a year ago. Following that, Mayweather claimed his rival had to pay him a massive $4million for announcing the talks on that occasion. That has not stopped the Philippines senator from talking up a bout once again. The 46-year-old stuck the ball in Mayweather's court, however. "As long as Floyd will come back. I’m active in boxing, it’s possible," Pacquiao told the Sun . “There is talk. Like I said, I’m happy to start talking about, discussing about a possible rematch with Floyd. “Of course, there’s a good chance to have a rematch because I’m still active – it’s only if he will come back that’s possible.” Pacquiao added: "I’ve been motivated since after the fight. After the operation, I was OK to get back in the ring and fight again. Right now, God is good and giving me strength and good health to continue my career as a boxer." Pacquiao most recently fought Mario Barrios to a draw in July in a bid to earn the WBC welterweight title after ending a four-year break from the sport. But before that, Pac-Man kept busy with seven bouts between his loss to Mayweather and his most recent fight. Mayweather has only recorded two more professional fights, against Andre Berto and MMA star Conor McGregor , as he earned a 50-0 record. Otherwise, the 48-year-old has only participated in exhibition bouts. That has seen him match up against the likes Logan Paul and John Gotti III. Pacquiao does not name Mayweather among his top opponents. The star named Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito. On why Floyd Mayweather isn’t in the top five, Pacquiao replied: “Floyd Mayweather ran the whole twelve rounds and then won the fight. “I feel sorry for the fans because the fight is boring. That’s not what the fans are expecting from us. If I am a fan, of course, I want to see a good fight, a challenging fight, not a fashion show.”
