Manipur flooded as monsoon lashes valley districts

Imphal: Manipur is facing the fury of monsoon as large part of valley districts are inundated.River Iril over flowed at several places. There were breaches of embakement in Thoubal, and Nongdambi. Relief camps have come up at Yourabung, Seijang and Nongada. A body was recovered from the Imphal River at Mayang Imphal on Sunday morning. One person is untraceable. IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Manipur for the next two days, and district authorities have issued a public advisory “to exercise extreme caution and stay alert for all possible breaches of the river banks and overflow of water to surrounding areas”.Live EventsPeople have been advised “to avoid driving or walking through flowing water, as it can be risky” and not try to swim or cross a flooded river or stream or any flowing water body.Manipur is in June this faced devastating. Around 1,65,943 people were affected and damaged 35,429 houses across 708 localities, besides claiming four lives.Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to the welfare of the local population, the Indian Army provided flood relief assistance in the villages of Shanti Khongbal, YKPI, Sabunkhok Khunou, and Thamnapokpi of Imphal East district of Manipur on September 14, 2025.The initiative was undertaken to provide immediate support to villagers affected by heavy rainfall and subsequent waterlogging in their homes.Despite facing adverse conditions themselves, Indian Army personnel worked tirelessly to distribute food and essential supplies to the affected families. In addition to food assistance, manpower was provided to help resolve waterlogging issues and aid civilians in managing the impact of the flooding.
