Mangaluru resident loses over ₹6 lakh in online job fraud

A Mangaluru resident lost ₹6.4 lakh to an online part-time job fraud.

In a complaint to the Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime (CEN) station, the complainant stated that on August 24, he saw on Telegram the page of the ‘UNIWLO’ online clothing brand offering a part-time job with a commission for investments. He joined the UNIQLO ED-472 group.

One member of the ‘Pratima Online’ group asked him to transfer ₹1 lakh to an account mentioned by the latter. Accordingly, he transferred ₹1 lakh from his bank account. Subsequently, he transferred ₹2 lakh and ₹3.4 lakh from two other bank accounts.

When he sought return of the invested amount, the complainant was told to transfer a larger amount. Realising that he had been cheated, the complainant sought action against the fraudster.

The Mangaluru CEN police registered his complaint for offences punishable under provisions of the Information Technology Act.
