Mangaluru airport bags six gold awards at QCFI convention

Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport (MgIA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to operational excellence by winning six gold awards at the 34th Chapter Convention on Quality Concepts (CCQC 2025) organised by the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI). The event, hosted by the Bengaluru Chapter on September 14, saw participation from over 250 companies across the country.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Mangaluru International Airport Limited (MgIAL), which has consistently earned recognition at the QCFI conventions over the past three years.

Six gold-winning projects

All six teams representing MgIAL clinched gold for projects that were built on Kaizen principles, focusing on continuous improvement, efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The winning teams and their initiatives are:

Team Vidyuth: Centralised UPS power supply distribution from standalone UPS systems.

A tradition of excellence

MgIAL’s victory builds on its past performances at the convention. The airport bagged five gold awards in 2024 and three gold awards in 2023, both at conventions hosted in Bengaluru. The steady rise in accolades underlines the airport’s growing emphasis on innovation and efficiency across operations.

About Mangaluru International Airport Limited

MgIAL, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), operates and modernises Mangaluru International Airport. Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) owns 49% of MgIAL, while AEL holds the remaining 51%.

Spread across 583.77 acres, MgIA is Karnataka’s second busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic, handling 2.32 million passengers in FY2024–25. It is also the first airport in Karnataka with two runways, including one made of rigid pavement later overlaid with asphalt, and manages over 50 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) daily.

As an emerging cargo hub, the airport handled more than 5,600 metric tonnes of cargo annually. Its strong focus on digitisation ensures a seamless passenger experience through advanced technology.

Recent recognition

In July 2025, MgIA achieved Level 4 accreditation for customer experience from Airports Council International (ACI). The accreditation recognises advanced practices in governance, customer service innovation, and service design. MgIA became the first Indian airport in the 5 million passenger category to achieve the Level 3 milestone before progressing to Level 4.

A model of innovation and sustainability

With its six gold awards at QCFI CCQC 2025, Mangaluru International Airport has reinforced its position as a model of innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. The projects not only focus on internal improvements but also highlight the airport’s responsibility towards environmental sustainability and passenger safety.

As the airport continues to expand its role as a passenger and cargo hub in southern India, these accolades reflect its dedication to becoming a world-class aviation facility.
