Manchester United wonderkid gets surprise first-team call from Ruben Amorim

Jayden Ngwashi, just 17, is already well known around the academy as one of the top defensive prospects coming through the ranks. He has been compared to JJ Gabriel in terms of potential, having earned that reputation not long after signing his first deal with United. The young centre-back has even been called the “Next Marc Guehi” due to his blend of physical presence and technical ability. United fended off interest from several big clubs across Europe to bring him in. This is not his first taste of senior training, either. Amorim clearly saw something he liked during Ngwashi’s previous stint and has brought him back for another look. The coach appears interested in following Ngwashi’s development closely, much like he has with Gabriel. It would not be surprising to see more training sessions involving the youngster in the near future. Alongside him were Victor Musa, Sam Mather, and Finley McAllister. With several first-team players recovering from their recent match against Brighton, Amorim made up the numbers by bringing up these young players for a session with the seniors. How the academy players fit into Manchester United’s first-team plans Ngwashi looks to have a real shot at breaking into the senior side within the next couple of years. But it is a different story for the other three who joined him in training. Mather was close to moving away from United over the summer, and there were even more rumours of a transfer after that, given the UAE window was still open. Do not be surprised if he makes a move in January, assuming an appealing opportunity comes up. Meanwhile, Musa has not quite made the jump to U21s as smoothly as hoped. Despite his strong scoring record at U18 level, his chances of breaking through at Old Trafford look slim right now. McAllister was once seen as a future first-teamer, but injuries have set him back considerably. Even though he has stayed healthy lately, others like Sekou Kone have moved ahead of him in selection order. With Christian Orozco already on board and Mouhamed Dabo possibly joining soon, McAllister may need to consider opportunities away from United to get regular senior football.
