Manchester man, 44, left stranded and homeless in Thailand after everything changed 'in an instant'

A man from Manchester has told how his dream new life in Thailand has collapsed into a nightmare. Kevin Brooks, 44 and originally from Wythenshawe , moved to Asia two years ago to be nearer to his mum and stepdad. He told how his stepdad, however, suddenly lost his job and now can’t work legally in the country as he’s a foreigner. Kevin says his mum and stepdad live in a small flat with just a single room and only enough space for themselves. As a result, he says he’s been sleeping rough or sometimes in stifling conditions inside a car. Kevin said he’s ‘stranded’ in Thailand, and that his life has spiralled ‘well past rock bottom’. He says his health has also declined as he’s lost weight and become thin and sickly-looking. Kevin said at first ‘everything was amazing’ – describing Thailand as ‘the perfect paradise’. “It was amazing seeing the sights like the beaches and the landmarks, and visiting tiger and elephant sanctuaries. It was amazing,” he said on a GoFundMe appeal. But he said ‘everything changed’ in an instant. “Now I’m left with no place to stay, going day-to-day not knowing where I’m staying in the evening and where my next meal is coming from. “All I want to do is get back to the UK and hopefully find a job and hopefully somewhere to live, although when I first get back I will more than likely be homeless in the UK, but at least I will be able to get a job. “I just want to come home. I have tried asking for help from people I know, but unfortunately I’m still here.” Join our Traffic and Travel WhatsApp group HERE Kevin said he has sought help from the British Embassy in Bangkok, but has got nowhere. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he said: “I have tried everything in my power to better my situation, but without any luck. “I’m homeless and in a very bad situation. All I want to do is get home.” His GoFundMe appeal is available here.
