Man Utd transfer given '10 out of 10' by former Arsenal star who made the deal

Marc Overmars believes Royal Antwerp pulled off some 10 out of 10 transfer business by completing the sale of Senne Lammens to Manchester United . The Belgian side’s technical director reckons his team produced some phenomenal business by earning healthy fees for the goalkeeper and Mahamadou Doumbia during the summer transfer window. United paid £18million for Lammens services after an unconvincing start to the season for goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana — the latter eventually moved on loan to Trabzonspor . Lammens, 23, has yet to feature for Ruben Amorim’s side, only being good enough for a place among the substitutes against Manchester City and Chelsea . And former Arsenal star Overmars believes his side have pulled off some fantastic work despite losing their first choice shotstopper on transfer deadline day . “If you have zero euros to spend in the past two seasons and from that point of view you raise 45 million euros, then you get a 10 in the business world,” Overmars told Het Laatste Nieuws. “Value for money , that’s what it’s called. We got Senne for zero euros and Doumbia for four hundred thousand. That’s different from investing 18 million and hoping for something to come out of it. We’ve been creative.” According to Overmars, the healthy profit Antwerp earned was not always set to come from United, as the Dutchman revealed Lammens was not destined for Old Trafford at the beginning of the final day of the window. “When Manchester United wanted Senne Lammens, we said; ‘Listen, we’re not Brighton or Brentford, with whom you have to negotiate for weeks’. With us, things have to move quickly,” Overmars said. “With Manchester United, we started as losers on deadline day. We had a deal with Aston Villa, but Martinez still had to leave and Senne didn’t want to go there. Only then did Man United make a first offer. Lower than Aston Villa. Four hours later, we finally reached an agreement.” Asked earlier this month whether Bayindir was the new United No.1 over Lammens, Amorim said: “No, nobody has a place that is his place. Everyone has to fight. Everyone is fighting for a place. “I’m just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game. “So, in the end of the season, maybe it’s a different team on the pitch. We are all just trying to win games. Trying to get the best connections to play better and, in the end, to win points.” Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
