Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has called for the club’s fan base to be patient towards ‘really young’ Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens. At the age of only 22, Sesko joined the Reds in a massive £66.4million deal plus £7.3m in add-ons from RB Leipzig during the summer. However, he’s been largely sidelined so far, with manager Ruben Amorim favouring Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha . Towards the end of the window, the Red Devils also wrapped up a move for goalkeeper Lammens, 23, who was signed from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m , including add-ons. The young Belgian is also being gradually introduced to the team, with Altay Bayindir remaining the first choice despite his shaky form this season. With United lagging behind their rivals, Maguire conceded it might take some time before fans see the best of Sesko, Lammens and the rest of United’s new signings. In an interview with Sky Sports , the former United captain said of Sesko: “I think he’s going to be an excellent player for the club. He’s still young, he is really young. “I’m sure he is probably finding a lot of pressure on his shoulders already, because that is what happens when you play for this club. I think everyone needs to realise he is a young player. “He might take time to find his feet. But he’s got all the attributes, the physicality, the mentality to be a success at this club. “I’ve been really impressed with him in training. His finishing is excellent. I believe he is going to score goals for this club for many years.” He then turned his attention to Lammens, who has similarly caught his eye during training sessions. Yet he swiftly began discussing the keeper’s tender years, saying: “I’ve been so impressed with him in training. “I think he has all the fundamentals to be a really, really top class goalkeeper. He’s great with his feet, he’s a big presence, he’s a really great shot-stopper. “I think he’s got all the fundamentals to be excellent. Again he’s another young boy. He’s coming to such a big club with lots of pressure. But I know he will deal with it and I’m sure he’s going to have a long future at this club.” Amorim refused to confirm who his No. 1 goalkeeper is, insisting Lammens will have to fight with Bayindir for the position. In his press conference previewing the clash against Chelsea , the Portuguese boss said: “No, nobody has a place that is his place. “Everyone has to fight. Everyone is fighting for a place. I’m just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game. “So, at the end of the season, maybe it’s a different team on the pitch. We are just trying to win games. Trying to get the best connections to play better and, in the end, to win points.” Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
