Man Utd news: Star told to walk out of training as player could face 'regulatory action'

Manchester United have been granted some breathing space ahead of their weekend trip to Brentford. With no European or Carabao Cup games to enjoy, failing to qualify for Europe and being knocked out by Grimsby Town in the second round of the League Cup has at least given Ruben Amorim a full week to get his side ready for their next Premier League encounter. The Red Devils triumphed over Chelsea in their last outing, courtesy of strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, though the Brazilian also saw red just before the interval, meaning he is now suspended. And United have other issues to address in their squad . Even without midweek fixtures, there’s still no shortage of developments surrounding the Premier League giants . Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford. United might find themselves facing a Premier League investigation following Maguire’s decision to meddle with the multiball system after being substituted against Chelsea. Video footage has surfaced showing the centre-back leaving the Old Trafford turf following his withdrawal, booting a ball away from one of the cones and sending it rolling towards the United supporters, reports the Mirror . Strictly speaking, Maguire violated Premier League regulations by doing so, as the rules stipulate that avoiding interference with the system is essential to “ensure that home clubs do not gain a competitive advantage through their misuse of the system”. The regulation also states: “Participants (including but not limited to players, substitutes, occupants of the technical area or any other club personnel) must not interfere with the multiball system, the match ball or the replacement balls at any time. “Any failure to follow the multiball protocol will be referred to the Premier League for further investigation and possible regulatory action under the Premier League rules.” It remains uncertain whether the footage has been forwarded to the league’s top brass or if Maguire has been approached about it. Rio Ferdinand has urged Sesko to emulate Ruud van Nistelrooy’s actions at United’s training ground and storm off if he continues to be poorly served in front of goal. The Slovenian forward is yet to score for the Red Devils in the Premier League, despite making five appearances. On his Rio Presents podcast, the former United defender criticised Sesko’s performances, stating: “In the first half, against 10 men, he’s had six touches. Six touches! I think the responsibility goes to the striker as well [as other players]. “In today’s game there’s enough at your disposal technology-wise and clip-wise that you can get it in black and white on the iPad and say to your team-mates, ‘You know when you got in that position, look where I am’.” Ferdinand then recalled how Van Nistelrooy once stormed off the training pitch out of frustration with Cristiano Ronaldo’s lack of service from the wings – a situation Sesko might relate to given Amad’s current form on the flank. He continued: “It’s decision making in the final third that’s going to set him free or it isn’t, and he’s got to try and dictate to a lot of those players either through runs that make it so obvious or physically telling them after a game. “They’re the type of conversations he has to have because I know Ruud [van Nistelrooy] was having that. “I saw Ruud van Nistelrooy walk off the training field because Ronaldo did too many step overs and he wasn’t playing it when he wanted it. You’ve got to find it from somewhere to make your team-mates know, and that will be the making of him.” Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is excelling in La Liga and the Champions League for Barcelona – and the Catalan club may be tempted to make his loan spell permanent. At present, United value the striker at £35million and have included no recall clause in his deal; meaning the 27-year-old will remain in Spain for the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign if things continue smoothly. Nevertheless, Barca are hoping to transform this temporary arrangement into a permanent transfer and believe they can land the England international’s signature for merely £26m. Whilst Sir Jim Ratcliffe won’t be eager to allow Rashford to depart for a bargain price, the lifelong United supporter doesn’t envisage a route back to his former club even if he impresses overseas. As Barcelona and United continue to negotiate a potential permanent fee for the seasoned forward, Rashford is focusing on his football in anticipation of a significant season and summer ahead. Matheus Cunha made a comeback to the United squad on Saturday against Chelsea, replacing Noussair Mazraoui in the 64th minute. However, there are few other injury comebacks on the horizon, with Lisandro Martinez still out of action for Amorim. Diogo Dalot, meanwhile, has been sidelined with a muscle injury that has kept him out of both United and Portugal’s line-ups. But United confirmed on Tuesday that the defender has returned to training ahead of the Brentford match, suggesting he could be back in the matchday squad soon. Martinez, on the other hand, has been recovering from a knee injury sustained last season, which led to surgery in February. The central defender has since returned to training and is working on his fitness in preparation for a return to Amorim’s team. No specific return date has been provided yet, but it seems Martinez can’t be far off rejoining his teammates on matchday – even if it’s just from the bench. Casemiro will also be absent for United, although this is due to suspension rather than injury. He might make a comeback to the matchday squad for United’s game against Sunderland early next month.
