Wrexham have been advised to steer clear of Memphis Depay in a damning transfer verdict for the Manchester United flop. The Red Dragons have experienced remarkable success under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in recent seasons, securing three successive promotions. Now competing in the Championship , boss Phil Parkinson reportedly operates under a stringent "no idiots" policy regarding new signings. However, as Wrexham pursue Premier League status, opportunities to acquire high-profile players who could destabilise harmony within the team are likely to increase. Depay is a player who may soon be on the market after being told to vacate his lavish £35,000-per-month accommodation funded by current employers Corinthians. The forward's future remains uncertain amid financial difficulties at the Brazilian outfit. Depay reportedly earns a salary of around £90,000 per week at Corinthians, along with receiving significant performance-related bonuses. In addition to approximately £3million already paid to the player, the club covers his luxury living arrangements. The perks are said to include a presidential suite, private chef and butler, personal security, an armoured car with driver, plus 24 business-class flights to Europe per year and a VIP box at the stadium. Ex-United first team coach Rene Meulensteen considers the Dutch attacker a prime example of the calibre of player Wrexham should steer clear of in their quest for top-flight football. Instead, he has urged the Welsh side to emulate Premier League newcomers Sunderland , who secured the proven quality of former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka during the summer transfer window and are now benefiting from that decision. The Black Cats currently sit fourth in the table following a strong start to the campaign, recording five victories, three draws and only two losses. When questioned about what guidance he would offer Wrexham in their pursuit of success, Meulensteen told compare.bet: "If I was Wrexham, I wouldn't sign Memphis Depay. If you go on that road, signing superstars, you need to make sure that they come up with the goods and they perform. "Wrexham already have their big superstars on the sideline with the owners. What they need to do is constructively build a team that can hold their own within the Championship and potentially in the Premier League. That takes a combination of quality, discipline and energy. "Not just the big name that steps on the pitch and you hope for the best. Will it be a draw for some respectable players? I couldn't see why not, especially if they get into the Premier League, but they have to be really solid professionals. "Look at Granit Xhaka going to Sunderland. He'd done it with Arsenal, went to Bayer Leverkusen, won the league and did extremely well before coming back to Sunderland, and he's been a hit." He added: "That's what Wrexham will need. Xhaka is the kind of experienced professional you need to bring in. Sound pros. Not just somebody that turns up once every three weeks." Depay arrived at Old Trafford for £25million from PSV in 2015 with the promise of huge potential, but he scored just seven goals in 53 appearances before departing for Lyon in 2015. He had far more success on the continent and is the Netherlands' all-time top goalscorer.
