A man was shot in the leg after two masked men demanded cash, police said on Wednesday.

The man was injured after he was approached by the pair, one armed with a handgun and the other with a machete, and became embroiled in a struggle with the would-be robbers.

The handgun was fired during the struggle and the attackers, both wearing dark clothes, fled the scene.

When police arrived, they found members of the public rendering assistance. Emergency services attended the location and the man was transported to hospital for treatment for what appeared to be a non-life-threatening injury.

The incident happened just before 9pm on School Road in George Town on on Tuesday, 16 Sept.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 8 and 9pm, or who has any information that could assist the inquiry, to call 949-4222.
