Man runs to live TV after ex-girlfriend fails to compensate him for GH₵450K investment in her business

A young man from Tafo, Kumasi, identified as Eric Nyarko, is demanding compensation from his ex-girlfriend, Afia Sarpong, after their relationship ended despite his heavy investment in her business. Speaking on Oyerepa Afutuo, a programme on Oyerepa TV that mediates domestic and relationship disputes, Eric claimed he spent over GH₵450,000 to set up and stock a container shop for Afia, who he met through her elder sister. According to him, he decided to help Afia become financially independent as part of his commitment to marry her. “When I met Afia through her sister, I told her I wanted to marry her. But I also wanted her to have her own business so we could support each other,” Eric said. He explained that Afia, who was unemployed and unable to further her education, expressed interest in selling clothes, so he financed her venture and helped her establish a shop. “She couldn’t go to school and she was into selling but it was just a small business, so I decided to help her get container and stock the container into full capacity for her. So, I had some money, and I gave to her for that purpose. From there every week I was giving her GH500 to add to her money to stock more. I did that until the shop was full of things. Before that I was giving her chop money everyday and taking care of her as well. I used to visit her sometimes and she also comes to my place.” Man runs to Auntie Naa as DNA test proves he is not the father of 12-year-old girl he sent to Germany Eric alleged that once the business began to thrive, Afia’s attitude towards him changed. “I was walking with her and she had a call, so I questioned her about the person that called … I got angry and when we went home, we had argument. She called her mother to complained that I have insulted her that her private part smells. “I compensated her and apologized to her but that didn’t solve the issues. Most of her siblings called me about that but still the issue couldn’t resolve.” Following their breakup, Eric said he approached Afia and her family to demand a half share of the business, but they rejected his request. “I went to their house with my uncle to ask for a fair share of the business since I invested everything, but Afia and her mother refused. They said I had no right to the shop,” he told the programme’s host. Eric and Afia’s marriage have ended abruptly and Eric decided to bring the matter to Oyerepa Afutuo for mediation.
