A Dartmouth man pleaded guilty on Tuesday for the 2024 murder of a New Bedford woman, court records show. Tyler Baglini, 32, pleaded guilty to the murder of Kerri Fidalgo, 31, in Fall River Superior Court Tuesday. He received a life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole in 25 years, court records show. On Sept. 20, 2024, first responders found Fidalgo suffering from multiple stabbing wounds at 86 Atlantic St. in New Bedford. Not long after Fidalgo was rushed to the hospital, Baglini burst into St. Luke’s Hospital emergency room holding a stained kitchen knife, saying someone stabbed his girlfriend, according to court documents. Baglini was held overnight at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for a psychiatric evaluation, officials said. “I have watched him sit here in this courtroom, quiet and timid, as if he couldn’t possibly have done what he did,” The Boston Globe reported Melissa Fidalgo, Fidalgo’s mother, said to the judge before the sentencing. “But I know the truth. I know how savage, how horrific, and how violent his actions were. I hate that he thought he had the right to take my daughter’s life. I hate that he took her from us, from the family that loved her so deeply, from the future she was building, and from the world that was brighter because she was in it.” Baglini was involved in several other cases, including charges that he assaulted two homeless men and attempted to push an air conditioning unit onto his then-girlfriend’s head, court documents show. “Whatever other issues he may have, he’s a batterer,” the Globe reported Judge Raffi N. Yessayan said. “He’s a domestic abuser. I look at his record, and that’s clear. That’s why I didn’t let him hide in the corner.” In court, Baglini’s attorney, Michael Hussey said Baglini’s history of substance abuse and mental health issues was “probably of little concern to anyone in this room, and probably of little value to this court,” the Globe reported. Hussey did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night.
